A common frustration for women in business – and men, too – is being pushed around by the people and companies we need in order to succeed. Sometimes they send you around in circles to locate resources, other times they just aren’t as helpful as you know they can be, and often, you’re just left waiting… and waiting for a response.

The human mind is like a faithful and just garden that produces fruit in and out of season. It does not segregate, show favoritism or partiality to any seed. The human being is the master gardener. If a seed of greatness and success is sown into the garden it will yield a harvest to the gardener in proportion to the quantity and quality of seed sown. The same is true for the seed of failure. Success is a fruit, and so is failure. Success comes from the success mindset, and failure from the failure mindset. In order to comprehend the success mindset, we will begin by examining the failure mindset and work from the negative to the positive.

After helping England win the world rugby union cup in 2003, Jonny Wilkinson is often asked to do promotional work. As usual, he over delivers and treats others the way he would like to be treated.
For example, he does not like to disappoint kids who have come to one of his kicking clinics. He teaches them the way he would like to have been taught.
He remembers how a golfing instructor ‘took a little time out just to confuse him and then walked away.’ Jonny had been looking forward to the session even if the instructor had not.

Do you wake up in the morning with an urge to stay in bed because you cannot face the traffic, the office or your colleagues? Do you find that you are unhappy with your circumstances? If your answer to each question is ‘yes’, then you are in the wrong job. You are not experiencing job satisfaction.
Most people are constantly measuring themselves against other people. Instead of looking at their own situation and finding a remedy, they look at others. And other people just have it all. They are better than us. They are better looking! They have more friends! They have more possessions, money and more comfort! They are just so much happier than we are!

How often have you been told that you must work on your weaknesses in order to improve yourself? That you should focus on your weaker points and bring them up to a higher standard? That by being a good, capable all-rounder you stand the best chance of achieving success in your life?
Well I disagree! For a start, focusing on your weaknesses isn’t exactly an uplifting or motivating activity is it? From a self-awareness point of view, yes, it’s important to be aware of the categories your weaknesses fall into. But the next step doesn’t automatically have to be one of focusing on them, agonising about them and working hard to correct them.

My father was a successful man even when he didn’t have any money. So when the material positions or the “proof” of success came about he was still the same person. He was still successful as he had always been and still took control of his future to continue being successful. Some people would say that if you are struggling to pay bills or just never able to meet your goals, that is not success. Maybe some might call that failure. Not so much, a successful person is someone that wakes up every morning and hits the ground running. A successful person is that man or woman who is constantly focused on ways to better themselves. These people know that there is no such thing as a “finished product”, there is always a way that you as a person can improve and each day that should be your goal. If you believe that you are successful and build on that success then anything is possible.
