Depression In Women

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Women experience depression about twice as often as men. Many hormonal factors may contribute to the increased rate of depression in women particularly such factors as menstrual cycle changes, pregnancy, miscarriage, postpartum period, pre-menopause, and menopause. Many women also face additional stresses such as responsibilities both at work and home, single parenthood, caring for children and for aging parents.

A recent NIMH study showed that in the case of severe premenstrual syndrome (PMS), women with a preexisting vulnerability to PMS experienced relief from mood and physical symptoms when their sex hormones were suppressed. Shortly after the hormones were re-introduced, they again developed symptoms of PMS. Women without a history of PMS reported no effects of the hormonal manipulation.

From A Nurse - Choosing Conventional Or Natural Treatments For Prostate Cancer

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

About 80 percent of men who reach the age of 80 have prostate cancer. Men have traditionally been less likely to seek medical attention than women, especially for minor problems which often serve as warning signs for more serious underlying illness. In most men, prostate cancer grows very slowly: most men will never know they have the condition.

Early prostate cancer is confined to the prostate gland itself; most of the patients with this type of cancer can live for years without any problems. Prostate cancer is characterized by ‘grade’ and ’stage’; grade is given to indicate how quickly a cancer is growing — the higher the grade, the more likely it is that the cancer will grow and spread rapidly and the size and extent of the tumor will determine its stage.

Although there are two kinds of dryers available in the market today — the bonnet hair dryer, and the hand held blow dryer — I think you would agree that most people use the latter in their homes. Hair dryers basically use a motor to blow heated air to dry your hair quickly.
